Wine Regions of the World
Europe
This exercise is designed to help you become familiar with different wine producing countries, their regions and appellations and their bottle shapes and colours. You will need a pen and paper then take a trip to a wine merchant or a well-stocked super market or if you work in a restaurant ask your manager if you can study the wine stock.
France - Exercise Number One
How many different Vin de Pays wines can you find? For instance Vin de Pays d’Oc is a famous area in the Languedoc Roussillon can you find any others and can you identify where in France they are located?

France - Exercise Number Two
Locate a wine from each of the following Appellations/regions and make a note of the AOC. For example in the Loire there is an appellation called Sancerre and the bottle will carry the words Appellation Sancerre Contrôlée.
- Loire
- Bordeaux
- Alsace
- Burgundy
- Rhone – southern and northern

Italy
Try the same exercise for Italy, this time you are looking for DOC and DOCG for the following regions:
- Veneto
- Piedmont
- Tuscany
- Puglia
- Sicily

Spain
Make a note of the Spanish wines that you can find. How many different DO and DOCa wines can you find?
Portugal
Make a note of the Portuguese wines that you can find. How many different DOC wines can you find?

Germany
Make a note of the German wines that you can find. Can you find a wine from the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer?
