Classic Grape Varieties

1. As we have seen in Section 1, factors such as the method of production, region and country of origin and vintage all affect the style and taste of a wine. Even if the same grape variety is used, there can be vast differences in the end product.
To help you understand these differences, look for as many wines made from the classic grape varieties as possible.
Create a list of these wines, noting their origin and style and, when you taste them, write a short tasting note for each one to compare the differences in styles between the same grape varieties.
2. Make a note of any blends you find with one or more of the classic grape varieties. Are there any varieties that are used together more often and in particular countries? E.g. Cabernet Shiraz in Australia. Which varieties seem to be most commonly blended?
