Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET®) Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines
The level 1 Programme provides a basic introduction to the main styles of wines available to front line staff involved in the service or retail of wine. The programme introduces you to the technique of tasting wine and the characteristics of the common grape varieties used to produce wine. The programme aims to provide the basic product knowledge and skills in the service of wines required to prepare you for your new job in wine service.
Learning Objectives
By the time you have completed this programme you will be better able to:
- Describe the main styles of wines available
- Describe the procedures for the receipt, storage and sale of wine (Retail)
- Display a basic understanding of factors that determine the main styles of light wines
- Understand the main health and safety considerations when serving wine
- Describe in general terms the main characteristics of the principle grape varieties
- Use the Level 1 WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting to produce simple tasting records
- State the correct service temperature, equipment and glassware for the service of wine (Hospitality)
- Offer basic food and wine matching advice
The course will take place at our Training Centre in Potters Marston, close to Leicester and easy to reach from junction 21 of the M1. The cost of this course is £135 per delegate (not subject to VAT) and is fully inclusive of the official WSET study pack, wines, examination fee and certification.
