Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET®) Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines
The level 1 Programme provides a basic introduction to the main styles of wines available to front line staff involved in the service or retail of wine. The programme introduces you to the technique of tasting wine and the characteristics of the common grape varieties used to produce wine. The programme aims to provide the basic product knowledge and skills in the service of wines required to prepare you for your new job in wine service.
Learning Objectives
By the time you have completed this programme you will be better able to:
- Describe the main styles of wines available
- Describe the procedures for the receipt, storage and sale of wine (Retail)
- Display a basic understanding of factors that determine the main styles of light wines
- Understand the main health and safety considerations when serving wine
- Describe in general terms the main characteristics of the principle grape varieties
- Use the Level 1 WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting to produce simple tasting records
- State the correct service temperature, equipment and glassware for the service of wine (Hospitality)
- Offer basic food and wine matching advice
This course is available as a closed course only for up to 12 candidates. It can take place at our Wine School in Warwick or it can take place at your location anywhere in the UK. The cost of this course depends upon how many people are in your group however based on 12 people the price per person is £55 (not subject to VAT) and is fully inclusive of the official WSET study pack, wines, examination fee and certification.
