An Introduction to French Wines
Learning about French wines is an excellent basis upon which to grow your wine knowledge. France invented the wine laws that the rest of the EU has used to draw up their own. Many of the famous wines from France are the benchmark against which many excellent wines from across the globe have been developed.
This half-day course is aimed at giving you a firm foundation of knowledge, which will help you to appreciate wines from every country. The course will cover:
- Wine Tasting– learn how to taste the experts way using an industry standard.
- French wine laws– Quality grading: Vin de table, Vin de Pays, VDQS, AOC.
- Bordeaux– the history of this famous wine region and its château.
- Burgundy– France's other famous wine region.
- The Loire Valley– the largest wine region in France has a great many famous wines to explore and taste.
- Alsace– sometimes overlooked this very important region has a great deal to offer.
- The Rhone Valley– we will look at both the Northern and Southern Rhone wine regions and taste wines from both.
- The Languedoc-Roussillon - After taking a look at the AC wines we will focus on the Vin de Pays from this region which are particularly good value and quality.
The course takes place at our Training Centre in Potters Marston, Leicestershire. The cost of this course is £55 per person and includes tastings of 8 wines from the areas covered during the session.
