Expanding your Knowledge of Burgundy Wines
This 3-hour course will take you on a journey around this historic wine region, which is the home of some of the most superlative wines in the world.
Nowhere else in the world does Pinot Noir taste so good and is Chardonnay so expressive. We will taste 8 wines, which will demonstrate the wealth of flavours from Chablis to Beaujolais.
The course will cover:
- The long history of the Burgundy wine region.
- The terroir, grape varieties, winemaking and vintage.
- Understanding the French Appellation System and its relevance to Burgundy. The Commune wines, Premier Crus and Grand Crus.
- Chablis – the gateway to Burgundy and where our journey starts.
- Côte d’Or – divided into Côte de Nuits and Côte d’Or. This is where you will find many of the stars of the region in villages such as Gevry Chambertin, Vougeot, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and many more.
- Côte Chalonnaise – an up and coming district – good hunting ground for lower priced Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
- The Mâconnais–Pouilly-Fuissé is the star here and we will look at many others.
- Beaujolais – more diverse than you might at first think.
The course takes place at our Training Centre in Potters Marston, Leicestershire and at our satellite centre in Birmingham. The cost of this course is £65 per person and includes tastings of 8 wines from the areas covered during the session.
