Summer Wine Courses

We are running some exciting 2-hour wine courses throughout the summer at Birmingham College of Food and at our education centre in Potters Marston in Leicestershire.


Spanish Wines

Introduction to Spanish Wines

This 2-hour course will include an introduction to sherry, that most under rated wine and we will taste one wine from each of the two families of sherry - Fino and Oloroso. The course will also look at some of the famous wine regions and the up and coming areas and we will taste six wines from Rioja, Priorat, Riax Baixas, Galicia and Ribera del Duero.

Australian Wines

Introduction to Australian Wines

This 2-hour course will cover wines from all the major wine producing states including some well-known areas such as The Barrossa and Margaret River as well as some lesser-known regions. In all we will taste 8 wines and we will also discuss the quality categories and provide some very useful advice when buying Australian wines.

Chilean Wines

Introduction to Chilean Wines

During this 2-hour course we will explore the history of the Chilean vineyards and discuss the wine producing methods and grape varieties found in this exciting wine producing country. We will taste 8 wines from regions such as Casablanca Valley, Limari, Aconcagua , Maipo Valley and Colchagua produced by some of the most interesting wineries.

Southern France

Introduction to the Wines of Southern France

This 2-hour course will provide you with an overview of the Rhône Valley, Provence and The Languedoc. The 8 wines we taste will introduce you to some of the hidden gems of these regions all carefully selected from the vineyards that I have personally visited.

For those of you interested in gaining the WSET Intermediate certificate we can offer you 2 routes:

WSET Intermediate 8-week course

The price includes the official WSET study guide, 6 wines samples each evening, free access to our Distance Learning course as extra support and the cost of the examination. Enrolment is available now and until August 29th.

WSET Intermediate Distance Learning course

This course is aimed at people who are unable to attend weekly seminars and tastings and therefore enrolment is not restricted to any particular date. Students will receive the WSET study pack, which consists of the course textbook, study guide, systematic approach to tasting card and qualification specification. You will also have access to the distance learning area of our Web site which contains tutored wine tasting videos, tutorials, exercises, quizzes and mock exams and access to your on-line tutor who will support you throughout your study.
